Candle Care & Safety

A quick guide to maximizing your candle experience. Let's enhance those rituals!

Step 1- Trim
  • Prior to each lighting, trim the wick to 1/4” for a clean and smoke free burn.
Step 2- Burn
  • Your first light is easily the single most important burn for your candle! Make sure you allocate enough time for your candle to melt all the way to the edge of the glass before you snuff it out (minimum of 3 hours). This creates what’s known as ‘wax memory’. It will take a couple of hours but will prevent the dreaded “tunneling” effect that basically ruins your candle and therefore your whole day.
  • Do not leave your candle burning for too long. As a general rule, candles are not recommended to be burned for more than 4 hours at a time. It’s easy to be naughty and break this rule, don’t!
Step 3- Monitor
  • As your candle burns the container can become hot- only burn your candle on a level, protected, fire-resistant surface.
  • Never move your candle or handle while it is lit.
  • If your flame is flickering excessively high, or if the flame is smoking your wick should be trimmed.
Step 4- Upcycle
  • When 1/4” of wax is left in your candle, it’s time to bid your candle farewell and upcycle the glass.
  • Always remove the remaining wax before reusing or recycling the container.
  • Pro Cleaning Tip! Put the candle in the freezer until the wax is frozen, the wax should then pop out easily!

SAFETY TIPS

  • Keep candle free of any foreign materials including matches and wick trimmings.
  • As your candle burns the container can become hot- only burn your candle on a level, protected, fire-resistant surface.
  • Never move your candle or handle while it is lit.
  • If your flame is flickering excessively high, or if the flame is smoking your wick should be trimmed.
  • Always extinguish your candle with care by using a candle snuffer or upturned metal spoon. Avoid blowing it out, as this can cause wax spillage and NEVER use water to extinguish your candle. Once extinguished, allow to cool until wax is solid before moving or handling.

And of course, never leave your candle unattended!
